RF IDeas

RF IDeas designs, develops, and manufactures proximity and contactless reader solutions that expand building access cards to hundreds of applications. The applications include employee identification, LAN access solutions, time/attendance, and enrollment - all using your existing building access proximity or contactless smart cards. Many of our solutions require absolutely no software to be deployed! Our desktop proximity and contactless reader solutions, Wiegand converters, and software bundles are capable of reading and expanding the functionality of nearly any existing contactless or proximity card or proximity badge used in facility access control.

A complete walk-away security solution without software! RF IDeas provides users with the first software-free solution for automatically locking unattended computers. The pcProx-Sonar device automates the locking of the PC when you step away. When you leave the proximity of the PC, pcProx locks the system without requiring any user intervention! No need for awkward time-out settings that mistakenly lock the PC when you are present. The pcProx will detect your presence and not lock the system inadvertently. Stop relying on users to remember to lock or log off when they step away from a PC .

Overview:

pcProx attaches to the PC via the USB port and is configured by the system as a keyboard. When you step away from your computer, pcProx sends keystrokes to the PC that engage a self-locking mechanisms such as a screen saver or your single sign-on lock.

Likewise, when you approach your computer, pcProx sends keystrokes to the PC that pull up your logon or identification dialog box. All individual keystrokes and specified delays are user-definable.

For example, under Windows 2000 the pcProx sends the sequence (Ctrl-Alt-Del K) when the user leaves the PC. As the user approaches the PC, another keystroke sequence is sent to ready the PC for password entry.

pcProx represents the lowest cost solution since there is no drain on IT support resources, software maintenance contracts, and other IT security burdens!

RF IDeas Contactless Cards

iCLASS cards and readers offer several unique features that enhance traditional RFID technology. These features include:

  • Mutual authentication: Simply put, the card and the reader each need to ensure that the other has matching keys, so that the reader "knows" that the cardholder is legitimate, and the card "knows" that the reader is authorized to read its information.

  • If the card and the reader simply transmitted the keys to each other for comparison, anyone with technical skills and a receiver tuned to the reader's frequency could capture the information, and make his own smart card to obtain access. Mutual authentication is a common practice in key-based encrypted communications.
  • Cryptographic data storage: the card and reader each contain complex cryptographic algorithms, which can scramble the transmitted data so that it is unintelligible. To prevent "hackers" from reverse-engineering the algorithm, the card and reader also have random number generators, and each one factors a random number into the algorithm, so that if you were to read the same card multiple times, the data transmitted would be different every time. Each card contains a unique serial number, which is used to encrypt the key that is stored on the card, making the key unique.
  • iCLASS offers DES and Triple-DES encryption for all data stored within the HID Application Area. The encryption is selected and implemented via an iCLASS Field Programmer (for availability, consult HID). The actual encryption is executed in the reader and the function calls necessary will be added to the SDK when available.
  • Secure reading and writing of data: All data stored on iCLASS cards is secured by Authentication Keys. The iCLASS cards and readers use 64 bit diversified keys. One key is used to protect each of the card's Application Areas.
  • The iCLASS reader can store up to eight Authentication Keys. Even if more than eight keys are in use at a particular site, a reader will only need to store the keys used for its particular application. New keys can be loaded on-the-fly when necessary.
  • User definable access keys: The iCLASS Field Programmer (for availability, consult HID) will enable end-users to create custom keys for their site. The programmer will generate keys based on a user entry, sometimes called a seed. The generated keys will be used to program a Master Key Card as well as all the other cards for that site. The Master Key Card is then presented to each of the readers to update its keys for compatibility with the newly programmed cards.
